Center

History and identity
Universities have faced radically changing demands in recent years. Society, the economy and politics demand increasing networking between universities and stakeholder groups. This seems to apply particularly to business studies where overlaps between scientific research and teaching on the one hand and practical implementations on the other hand occur. The efforts of the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences in this respect have been strengthened by the foundation of the Center of Entrepreneurship and Applied Business Studies.

The Center aims at focusing on key economic sectors in the regional environment. These are of notable strategic and economic significance for the region. The University of Graz aims to contribute accordingly.

Principles and teaching objectives
Students at the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences need to get an education that considers regional areas of application, so aspects of business studies are selected, structured and emphasized in research and teaching. The Center of Entrepreneurship and Applied Business Studies has a particular interest in the following aspects: management, strategy and organisation, leadership, control and decision-making as well as start-ups and restructuring. This offers students meaningful insight in the running and controlling of enterprises adding to the theoretical and scientific education.

Research activities
Research activities build on regional strengths and cover the fields mentioned above, e.g. in development of businesses and locations, leadership as well as neuroleadership, public management, and entrepreneurship.

Projects
The focus on regional needs and requirements creates numerous opportunities for all stakeholders to cooperate in a wide range of economic collaborations.
